The World Class Commissioning assurance process was designed to show how effectively individual Primary Care Trusts (PCTs) commission services to improve the health of their local population.

Liverpool PCT has performed exceptionally well in this assessment; it is ranked second in the North West region.

The report for Liverpool PCT stated that it has ambitious aspirations for its population’s future health and level of health inequality, and that the PCT is a systematic organisation that has made significant improvements in its commissioning role.

Liverpool PCT has been assessed as world class in its engagement with clinicians. This is a major achievement which puts the PCT in a strong position to work with and support local clinicians through the reforms announced in the health White Paper, which will see responsibility for commissioning NHS services move to GPs through GP commissioning consortia.
