The main aim of Active City is to provide the opportunity for the people of Liverpool to participate in physical activity. This activity comes in numerous different forms including walking, cycling, dance, play, traditional sport, gym based, use of parks and outdoor spaces for activity etc. Work is underway to remove any perceived barriers to participation such as cost and access.
A strategic group has been established to help with the delivery of Active City, This group are called the ‘Sport and Physical Activity Alliance’ and is made up of a range of activity providers from different organisations.
In order to benefit health then children need to be active for at least one hour per day every day, whilst for adults the target is 30 minutes per day for at least 5 days per week. One of the biggest barriers to more people being regularly physically active is lack of time, clearly if people find an activity that they enjoy then they are far more likely to find time to participate.
The Active City initiative will strive to raise the profile of sport and physical activity in Liverpool in order to allow people to make informed choices of what activities are available, where they are located and how they can be accessed. The Active City website is one of the key methods for this information to be distributed. For more information please log on to www.liverpoolactivecity.net
