Race for Health

The Race for Health programme enables Primary Care Trusts to make the Health Service in their areas significantly fairer for black and ethnic minority communities.

This is sponsored by the Department of Health. Liverpool PCT is proud to be hosting the Race for Health Programme and to be working with a network of up to 23 primary care trusts around the country, working in partnership with local black and minority ethnic communities to improve health services, increase choice and create greater diversity within the NHS workforce. The chair of Liverpool Primary Care Trust, Gideon Ben-Tovim holds the position of Chair for the Race for Health programme.

Race for Health Vision

Our vision is of a society where the health needs of black and minority ethnic people drive the health services they receive.

As Primary Care Trusts, working individually and collectively we deliver measurable improvements and health outcomes of black and minority ethnic people.

Through community engagement and leadership we aim to make significant improvements in delivering race equality in:

  • Workforce; from recruitment to retention and promotion
  • Commissioning; including the planning, designing and buying-in of services and products
  • Service improvements; making significant progress in tackling the real inequalities to access, experience and health outcomes experienced by black and minority people

The changing nature of the NHS and the increasing diversity of the population make Race for Health ever more relevant.  Modern, dynamic health and social services should reflect the experience and aspiration of all their users.  Closing the health gap for black and minority ethnic communities will be a real measure of success.
